Welcome to Mu Gamma at-Large Chapter

Mu Gamma formed April 28, 1990, representing Boise State Nursing. It is the 289th chapter established at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.  November 2017, Mu Gamma collaborated with Northwest Nazarene University to become an at-large chapter, Mu Gamma, transforming to Mu Gamma at-Large.

As Mu Gamma at-Large Strategic Plan highlights, "Mu Gamma Chapter-at-Large is a unique nursing organization, in that it is inclusive of all nursing specialties. New members are inducted through two schools of nursing based on academic achievement and nurse leader applications in the community. We mentor new graduates and are involved with the Student Nurses’ Associations at both universities. Being a chapter-at-large provides a broader perspective through feedback and coordination of both nursing schools. Challenges we face include geography, as our universities are in different cities and retention of members."

Mu Gamma at-Large members include nursing students, community nurse leaders, retired nurses, and nursing faculty. Our stakeholders are Boise State University, Northwest Nazarene University, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center, West Valley Hospital, and the Treasure Valley community.

To provide a little background on Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing it was founded in early 1922 by six nurses known as the Sigma Founders.  Its mission is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses. The name “Sigma Theta Tau” comes from the Greek words Storgé, Tharsos, and Timé, meaning “love,” “honor,” and “courage,” all vital components of nursing. Since 1922, Sigma has grown to over 130,000 members and 90 countries.

To support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses Sigma offers grants, online continuing nursing educationeducation and research conferences, Virginia Henderson Global Nursing e-Repository, Sigma's career development, and academy programs.

Sigma also publishes many publications such as the Journal of Nursing Scholarship, Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing™, Reflections on Nursing Leadership along with many educational nursing books.

To learn more about the mission of Sigma Nursing, please read Dr. Sandra C. Garmon Bibb's Call to Action, which calls for nurses to represent the best of our individuality and shared contributions to our profession in three ways:
As a Sigma Nurse & Mu Gamma at-large member, there are many ways to be involved. You can join or start a discussion, join a community, engage in career mentorships or coaching. You can also find eventsvolunteer opportunities,  and even find your next dream job.
